Changes :-/

I'm coming to the end of a part of my life. As cliche as that sounds, it's true. I'm graduating soon, in about 2 weeks. I love my school and I love my friends. And also, being around people all the time for so long, I've realized I'm just afraid to be alone. I'm afraid of losing my friends. I love them to pieces and we're pretty close, we do everything together. One of them even knows about about this. I know I'll keep in touch with them but I'm so insecure about everything that I'm worried we'll lose touch etc. I also worry about not having anyone who knows, at all. If I live back home, my parents don't know and late night binges will be easier than anything. And all the time alone scares me because I don't want to be alone. I'm not okay enough with myself. I guess I just don't like change.

Has anyone else had to deal with these issues, or know how I can approach them in a way in which I won't b/p a lot more with the stress?

change is one of the biggest

change is one of the biggest challenges of recovery. it is so wonderful that you have the insight to recognise the potential triggers ahead of you - nice work! :).

how can you best prepare for the triggers ahead? make sure you maintain a regular, structured eating plan..even (especially) on days where your schedule is out and you're all over the place. hunger --> bingeing so be well prepared on this front.

be kind to yourself! you know already there will be challenges ahead and you will probably feel quite sensitive, so make sure you plan in as many wonderful activities you can which will nurture your soul and spirit. you know in advance to be as nice as possible to yourself in the coming weeks and months.

what 'alternative' coping mechanisms can you use for the moments you become triggered. try to think of positive and healthy activities or non-food related indulgences you can treat yourself to which might distract or prevent relapse, eg. running a bath with candles and rose petals. fun :)

us humans don't like change much..it's a threat to our stability and makes us feel vulnerable. if you start feeling afraid or down or anxious, accept that it is a completely normal feeling for anybody who is facing a major change in their life. accepting and allowing ourselves to be a little sad is a very liberating experience (especially for people with an eating disorder who often maintain very high standards/expectations for themselves!). remind yourself you are not weak, simply human - revel in the aliveness these intense life changes evoke!

change is scary, but it is through change that opportunities for growth, self discovery and new opportunities are born. it can be scary until you find your feet, but almost always you'll look back in hindsight and be so grateful for the major life changes which occur. they take you to higher places than you can dream of in your current comfortable state :)

good luck, and enjoy the journey!! xx

Thanks!!

Thanks so much for the encouraging reply and the advice. I definately do feel down and anxious and don't always let myself show it or feel it. I'll definately watch the eating scheudle too, espeically working a night shift possibly. Thanks again, you're awesome and definately have a lot of insight and advice! :-)
