What do you guys recommend as snacks? and preferably if its something easy to take with you, and easy to eat, I really appreciate any ideas.

When I'm at home I usually snack on fresh fruit or veggie sticks, or something left over from a previous meal. but when I have to be at work, or be out of the house for the day, I want to bring a healthy snack with me. But I never know what to bring. and i think people will look at me funny if i start peeling an orange at work, or take out a tomato and eat it whole (which I always do at home)

Thanks!!!

Why would anyone look at you

Why would anyone look at you funny for peeling an orange or eating a tomato? I think everything you mentioned that you eat at home would be perfect at work also. I love fruit and find it easy to snack on. I also like nuts, dried fruit and yoghurt :D

~~~and so she would sing~~~
Oh my goodness! I would be
Oh my goodness! I would be lost without apples, bananas, oranges...
But...I'm not sure about you, but caring about what other people thought was how I got where I am now. Does it matter if someone looks at you funny for having an apple if that apple means you have taken one step closer to recovery? Easy for me to say, I know... :)
too true! i guess I'm so used
too true!
i guess I'm so used to eating in private, I always avoided eating in places where other people were present. cuz I would usually be stuffing my face :( I think the shame and embarassment of my secret has become ingrained so much to the point of being uncomfortable eating normally in front of others, unless with family or friends...
but I think not caring is a way to overcome that :)
If you don't wanna eat a
If you don't wanna eat a tomato whole, try bringing a baggie of cherry tomatoes. I do that sometimes. I also LOVE 2% string cheese. It keeps ya full. You could also bring 24 almonds with a pack of raisins in a baggie. I also love to snack on apples. Hardboiled egg.
I totally live off of fresh
I totally live off of fresh berry-like fruits and plain non-fat yogurt. Buy tall clear-plastic cups with flat, clear lids from the grocery store and layer yogurt + fruit (strawberies, bananas, peaches, blueberries etc.) + and some granola or chopped nuts or crush up those green Nature Valley Oat snacks. These are seriously awesome, and you can stick them in the refrigerator and grab one as you leave for the office or something
OR chop up fruit and put it
OR chop up fruit and put it into a plastic cup and take it with you. It might be awkward peeling an orange but there's something classy about eating a tall fruit cup huhh haha
good luck today everyone!!
grilled zucchini
i am currently obsessed with grilled zucchini. i slice the zucchini (usualy in 3) lengthwise and rub on some olive oil and italian seasoning... then throw them on the bbq or foreman grill. so awesome. i am seriously eating like 2 a day.
oh, this snack would not be good for work... but it's great for home.
popcorn
I don't really like all of the "stuff" in microwave popcorn, but I'll pop some oldfashioned corn on the stove top and toss it in a zip lock baggie. Great for mindless stress munching at work.
I love eating apples! or
I love eating apples! or cherries..also they now make these individual unsweetened apple sauce cups that are pretty good. I also eat hard boiled egg whites, if you are at the point in your recovery where you can eat the whole egg that's good too. You can get omega 3 eggs which are really good for you.
so many good ideas:)
Thanks guys for the ideas! i'll definitely be adding these to my snack list, and I just bought some roast chestnuts today to bring on the plane with me :)
I never popped popcorn the old fashioned way, reminds me of the first scene in Scream...but I'll definitely try it. sounds a lot better than the microwave type!
and I love the pita pockets idea!! I rarely see them here in Japan, but I can think of a few places that are likely to have them. I love spending my money on good healthy food, even if they are a bit more pricey than the "normal" foods, or better yet, my binge foods.
Frozen Yogurt
I like taking a few yogurts to work and leaving them in the freezer. After you take them out and let them defrost for a few minutes they are awesome and healthy.
assorted trail mixes
I like taking any kind of nuts and adding dried fruits(cranberries, raisins, apricot,ect.), it's good source of energy, especially if you are multi-tasking and don't want to get mess with fresh fruit. However fresh organic fruits and veggies are my first choice but at work I do have to go for convenience at times :)
My favorite snacks are
My favorite snacks are fruits, applesauces, and special K bars, but if you're looking for something exotic and salty, I suggest hunting for a local Asian market and buying dried seaweed. It sounds repugnant, but I promise you'll be hooked after the first bite. It has the feel of a potato chip, but is much more healthy and scrumptious.
