Diet Pills

I find that if I am taking diet pills (I've tried almost everything) that I don't throw up. However, I'm scared that they might have side effects too. I don't even know if they actually help at all, but at least I feel like I can eat when I take them. Does anyone else struggle with this? An endless cycle of diet pills then purging and then back to diet pills?

what kind of diet pills do

what kind of diet pills do you take? i used to take them too but they made me really agitated. I also lied about my BMI to obtain the orlistat (alli) pills. They were gross and I didnt lose much weight at all. I also took street drugs to aupress my appetite - BIG MISTAKE! Ended up addicted and heavily in debt. I try to avoid this but always think pills would be the easy way out. I'm trying to persuade my GP to start me on a course of topomax which has been successful in reducing binge episodes.

i can't take diet pills- i'm

i can't take diet pills- i'm very anxious and i think i'm going to die everytime a pill makes me feel weird. street drugs, me too. ironically the next day, i'd end up binging because i hadn't eaten anything the day before. wasted a couple years of my life with that.

my gp knows that i am "recovering" from an ed... i haven't really been completely honest and said i still suffer from it. i'm worried if i tell them, they'll refer me to inpatient. i just want something to control the binges... please let me know if you are prescribed topomax and let me know how it goes!

I used to take hoodia which

I used to take hoodia which really helped suppress my appetite because I told myself "no binge, no purge."
Then I researched each of the ingredients of a certain brand to see what was really going on. Most diet pills contain caffeine and a synthetic form of ephedrine. They both act on your nervous system to increase your heart rate, and metabolism to some extent.
It sounds like you have the placebo effect. As long as you think diet pills make eating okay, you might be able to take any pill and convince yourself its helping with your metabolism.
I've actually done this, lol, so I think it could work for you too. I bought these digestion pills (http://www.amazon.com/Enzymatic-Therapy-Acidophilus-Pearls-90/dp/B000BQ8ATQ) and told myself it was okay to keep down the meal if I took these.
You're better off taking Acidophilus (the bacteria in yogurt) than heart-affecting diet pills. These probiotics actually do help with digestion, so its a win-win =)

I definitely relate to this.

I am the same way. I feel like if I take a diet pill than I am allowed to eat. I know they don't work but it still makes me feel a little better.

Warning about ephradine!!!

I have been taking ephradine for a while now and they are very addictive. When i have taken them i cant even look at food!! but i cant sleep and my heart races!!! Also when you have taken this drug no matter how hard you try you cannot be sick its like the drug shuts your stomach off!! all you end up doing is shreading your throat!! So if anybody is considering taking this drug i strongly warn you not to!! I wish i had never got involved in this awful drug.

Ephedrine

I've been taking ephedrine for about a year (on and off) and I think it definitely helps with weight loss as is such a good appetite supressant, and for me when I have days I take the pills - it's easier to resist bingeing.

On the down side they stop me sleeping and can make me really agitated and anxious. I'm terrified of the damage they could be doing to my heart. I'm too embarassed and ashamed to tell my boyfriend of friends that I'm taking them becasue I know they'd be disgusted that I'm jeapordising my health for the sake of a few pounds. and they'd be cross that I'm still trying to lose weight.

Like Ash26 said, I wish I'd never started taking them. They've just become another tool I can use to abuse my body.

Calilove, I think I rotate between the pills and bingeing all the time! And I donlt know which to try and stop first so I try to just quit everything. Then that seems impossible so it's just one step forward and 10 back!

This is a bit of a ramble. Sorry.

Diet pills SUCK. They're

Diet pills SUCK. They're stupid and most of them haven't even been clinically tested. A lot of them cause stomach problems, insomnia and tachycardia to mention a few. For me, appetite suppressants never worked beacuse you have to continue taking them and most of the effects ware off after awhile, regardless of whether or not you still down the pills. So once I went off of them, its like my body realized how little food I have been getting without some chemical tricking it. Needless to say, those post-diet pill binges were some of the worst I have ever had. In my opinion, diet pills are the farthest thing from a healthy recovery method. They do nothing but trick your body (just like bingeing and purging does!) instilling a false hope in a "quick and easy" weight loss method. You know those "calorie burner" and "carb blocker" pills....how is that NOT a purge method??
Also, in my biology lab class, we tested carb blocker pills and then compared the results to the claims on the bottle...and guess what?! Their claims about how the substance blocks carbs is a false one, and we discovered that taking these pills can cause some serious problems with your digestive tract. Anyway yeah I really don't agree with diet pills :S

they are all a load of crap.

they are all a load of crap. alli is the brand name for Orlistat. which basically stops people absorbing so much fat. so basically you get horrible fatty, diarrhoeal, poos. they work because people naturally stop eating so much fat, so that their poos are less fatty. but they don't make you lose weight necessarily.

the only things that probably work are illegal. and for good reasons, because they basically put your heart at risk amongst other things. and as emily says, they are another way of purging, so really not a good way to deal with an eating disorder.

I used to work in gnc and

I used to work in gnc and really abused all the diet pills. They work great until you try to stop and become even more anxious then before which in my case made me binge/purge even more. Not to mention they screw up you hormones, I can't tell you when the last time was that I got my period. Try something natural like the vitamin theanine its all natural and helps you relax.

Diet Pills

I just want to let you know that most diet pills contain Ephedra which can cause pychosis - delusions & halluncinations. This happened first hand to me. I just wanted to let you know, and hopefully you won't put yourself at risk to that. Thinking you've hurt someone, or thinking that someone hurt you is a terrible delusion to have. You wouldn't believe the things that diet pills can make you think!

I go from eating diet pills to purging to eating them to purging all the time! Its really weird. If I am not on them, I do not have any sorft of caffine in my diet except for them. But I am always so tired if I am not on them. Its an endless battle....

"Wow, look how beautiful I am."

i've never heard of anyone

i've never heard of anyone having an amazing success from taking diet pills...but since we're talking about something that will kill hunger and get rid of abnormal fat i'll say look into this book...
http://www.hcginfoonline.com/ORIGINAL_Dr_Simeons_Pounds_and_Inches.htm

it was written by a doctor in italy in 1971, he created a method that cured people of obesity at a rate of .5-1 pounds lost daily, and with no negative side effects (im serious)...please don't judge it unless u actually read the book, its very detailed. Its maybe 50 pg or something and kinda a suppressed discovery but u can get the oral liquid of the stuff he mentions (no u have to eat a very specific diet he created u don't just drink the thing and not eat) on ebay pretty cheaply...

its like being an alcoholic, all it takes is one drink (or one bite for us)

Please try and quit the diet pills now if you can. I started off on a diet and used diet pills as a way of being able to eat. I mean, i went on a diet and thought thgat if i took diet pills i could eat any meal, it then went to being able to eat a healthy meal, then low cal meal then very small low cal meal. It now a case of i have to take rediculous amounts of them, eat, purge then take more to counteract wat i purged. It may seem to start of as a easy soulution but if my experience is anything to go by it dont last. I addicted to them now and they cost a fortune, dont work either, i thought they did in the beginning as i first lost lot of weight quit quickly, now i can see that it prob wasnt the poills but the restricting that did it and now im stuck not being able to eat anything without taking the things. Please do want u can to get off them a.s.a.p. the sooner the better as you only become more relient on them, i know easier said than done but all you can do is try your best and it will be far easier today than it will tomorrow.

I should take my own advice but i just gone too far, dont follow the path with diet pills like i have if you can help it please.

DIET PILLS

I ALSO TAKE DIET PILLS AND I ALSO TAKE TOPAMAX, I AM A BINGER AND VOMITER AND LAXATIVE ABUSER. I FIND IF I TAKE THE DIET PILLS I DONT BINGE SO MUCH. I STILL BINGE BUT NOT AS MUCH BUT WHEN I AM STRESSED THE DIET PILLS DONT HELP. I DONT KNOW HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN BULIMIC BUT I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING FOR YEARS AND I FEEL THAT MY PERIPHREAL NEUROPATHY HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH ALLTHE PILLS I WAS TAKING. SO IF YOU CAN TRY TO NOT TAKE THE DIET PILLS OR TAKE SOMETHING SAFER I WOULD TRY IT. I HAVE DESTROYED MY BODY, MY FACE LOOKS SO OLD. AND MY MARRIAGE IS A MESS. IM SORRY I AM NOT PREACHING, JUST DONT WANT YOU TO MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AS I AM MAKING. I AM MUCH BETTER THAN I WAS YEARS AGO. BUT MY BODY HAS GONE THROUGH HELL. PLEASE TRY TO FIND SOMETHING SAFER

DO NOT take diet pills or herbal weight loss supplements

I don't want to say where i work (because that is how i know this), but let me just say i get internal emails every day about the craptacular things that diet pills and weight loss supplements (including the ones mentioned in this forum) do to people--often things that are not reversable like liver and kidney failure. they are not a permanent solution, do not work, and probably damage your body just as much as bulimia.

i also took topomax for a while and it really helped with the ED, but it, also, has scary side effects. so i got off it.

just remember that "FDA approved" doesn't mean "safe". It usually means, at the very best, that the clinical benefits outweigh the risks/harm. the only problem is that some problems take a long time to develop and the sample used in the clinical trials is not super-representative of the population so its safety profile may be worse than is thought. your better off not taking anythiing unless you really have to (like if you have cancer etc)
