Does weight gain really happen during recovery , does it always happen?

I read that lots of people have gone through weight gain during recovery's just strange because isn't it supposed to be the opposite , the times we binged , we binged on so much food and thousands of calories but now that we're eating regularly why would it be possible to gain weight? ....I for example have been bp free for 2 weeks? I'm eating healthy and doing moderate excercise ...wouldn't a healthy lifestyle be enough to stay fit ? ...or our bodies and are no longer used to keeping food in so no matter how healthy we are , our bodies would still go through weight gain?

I put on weight, that's all I know. Being one year b/p free I started to lose some, it felt amazing, I even started to love my body, but then bam it all came back when I had a rough week of being sick, staying at home, feeling miserable and eating like a crazy person. It's a long journey, but I guess it's different for everyone. The point is, don't give up and you'll succeed in the end.

For me I think most of my weight gain happened as I overate and couldn't purge. But other than that, I think our bodies put on some weight because they are malnourished. Even though we've had way too many calories, we leech nutrients and upset our electrolyte balances and dehydrate ourselves every time we purge. And then there's the restriction in between b/p episodes. So our bodies still go through starvation mode. This causes them to latch onto whatever food we give them. But yes, eating healthily and regularly does lead to weight loss. So as your body adjusts to your new lifestyle, you will lose weight. It's during the transition period that weight gain happens (especially as many of us can't just stop b/p cold). Hope that helps a little.

Everyone is different, we

Everyone is different, we can't put everyone in the same category. I had ED for 5 years, and have been fully recovered for 2 years. Right now I still don't own a scale but there is one at the gym which I use every now and then to make sure I'm not losing weight. And well I weigh the same now or perhaps less even then when I started recovery. Because during recovery your body doesn't which way is up or down. I don't suggest anyone going through recovery keeps a scale in the house. I don't even have a kitchen scale (I started to love baking so I might get it) but previously not, cause who cares what I weight or exactly how many grams my food weighs, nowadays my body take care of this for me. But it takes a long time, and a lot of patience, frustration and tears. If you can let the weight thing go, you'll get there.

So the answer is: No everyone doesn't gain weight, but some do.

I think for me weight gain

I think for me weight gain happened because my body signals of hunger and satiety didn't work properly. I think my body just didn't trust food that was going in would stay so my appetite was in overdrive. In the beginning of recovery I did over eat. Good news is for me it got better and now I eat normally and the weight is coming off. I think fear of weight gain is the biggest thing that interferes with recovery.
